VALENTINES 2010 - Capturing the Spirit of Love
Our staff would like to extend a warm thank you to all the people who have made
our opening months a wonderful and productive experience.
First and foremost, we wanted to thank all the people who supported our effort to raise money for the Jersey Shore Cancer Society. This branch of the American Cancer society offers local support including guidance, research and programs for those in need. We raffled off five gift baskets raising a generous donation to the society. Our sincere thanks goes out to all people who supported this hard working, local charity.
We will be raffling off a Valentine’s Hand Blown Perfume bottle (a $100.00 value) filled with flowers, that when done with display, could be brought back to the store to be distilled into a beautiful, one of a kind perfume, body lotion/soap. The raffle will take place on Saturday, February 13th, at 12 noon. To participate, just visit the shop for a free ticket. For every $10.00 spent in the store, participants will receive an additional ticket.
Each holiday, we auction off a $200 basket. In our next e-mail, we’ll announce the lucky winner, along with the winners of our holiday and Jersey Shore Cancer Society fundraiser basket!

Distillation is a process that extracts aromatic compounds from raw materials such as plants, fruits and flowers. Gifts of Nature is proud to own a laboratory-grade steam distillation unit to draw the botanical oils from flowers and herbs for use in our perfumes, body products, healing remedies and soaps.
We are so excited to offer classes for any individual or groups of all ages interested in creating -- from scratch -- a one-of-a-kind body product through distillation. Perfumes, body lotions, aftershaves and soaps can be made with your favorite garden variety flowers and herbs, or that special bouquet of flowers from your birthday or anniversary (or Valentine’s Day!) that has begun to fade – bring them into our store to be recycled into a unique perfume or body care product!
Did You Know? The History of Valentine’s Day
In the ancient Athenian calendar the period between mid-January and mid-February was the month of Gamelion, dedicated to the sacred marriage of Zeus and Hera.
The holiday is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The holiday first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
