Three Companies - One Winner - You
Andrew Carnegie is considered one of the titans of industry along with fellow contemporaries of the 19th century such as John D Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt and JP Morgan. Born and raised in Scotland, his mother decided to emigrate to America. With young Andrew in tow she settled in Pittsburgh, PA, where her sister resided. This is the sole reason that US Steel was located there. As Carnegie Steel grew and grew profits allowed it to grow vertically. Since railroads were being laid down just about everywhere in the country and tracks were made from Carnegie Steel Andrew started buying railroads. This practice, referred to as “vertical integration,” allows a company to sell its products cheaper than the competition. Our company has decided to take a different approach, which we call horizontal expansion. Allow me to explain:
When our founder, Judy Ryan, achieved her degree in physical therapy in 1989 she went to work in various rehab settings, namely hospitals and geriatric care, to gain valuable experience. Realizing she had a lot more to offer, Judy decided to open her own company, International Physical Therapy, in 1994. The first day in operation IPT had exactly one client, an unemployed softball coach who had no health insurance and no money. True to form Judy treated this client as if he was paying her handsomely for the treatment. Through hard times and periods of falling behind on bills she never strayed from her belief that her clients health and well being was prime directive number 1.
As Judy’s knowledge of human anatomy grew she wondered why there weren’t enough organic and skin care products that offered relief from pain, or relief from conditions such as psoriasis, or even creams and lotions that minimize wrinkles and can make a person look and feel younger. Her answer was to attend a 3 year program in a hospital setting and she achieved her certificate as a licensed aromatherapist. International Physical Therapy was soon joined by a sister company called Gifts of Nature. With her vast knowledge of the human body Judy formulated various creams (Day into Night Cream), sprays (Cold and Flu) and other sought after products. Thus her company began to grow horizontally, all to the benefit of the public at large.
2016 saw further expansion when ”A Healing Touch at IPT” was formed as our organic and natural day spa, where we offer massages (including Lymphatic Drainage massage), facials (including our non invasive wrinkle removing Smooth Sculpting), hair styling (using only toxin free natural dyes) and nail polish application by trained techs who again only provide vegan based polishes and removers. Growing horizontally is a win-win for both owners and consumers. Come in and browse or book an appointment in our spa. You will not regret it!
